Activities
WASTE2H2 held 3 thematic workshops that represented an opportunity to bring together the senior and junior members of each partner’s teams in an environment of sharing and scientific curiosity. The sessions had a maximum duration of 3 days and included several lectures and seminars within the scope of the project. The communications were delivered by the senior members of each partner and some invited researchers of international renown.
Workshop 1: “Technologies and methods for production of H2 rich gas from thermochemical treatment of solid waste feedstocks”, held at KTH
(Coming soon…)
Workshop 2: “Entrained flow and dual fluidized bed gasification”, held at KIT
Workshop 3: “Overview of waste-to-gas cutting-edge technologies”, held at IPP
WASTE2H2 accomplished the organization of 2 summerschools, each with a duration of 4-5 days for about 15-20 participants. This activity was mainly addressed to ESRs from all partner institutions and other external interested researchers. The summerschools allowed participants to exchange knowledge and learn directly from experts about methods and guidelines used in a field of expertise.
The sessions were mainly provided by the research staff of the host institution, but also external stakeholders were invited.
First Summerschool on “Biomass and waste gasification technologies” at KTH.

Second Summerschool on “Analysis of syngas” at KIT.
To better gather knowledge on each partner’s area of expertise, staff from IPPortalegre (ESRs) will be able to do research at KTH, KIT and ENEA for periods of up to 2 months. These researchers are expected to participate in running or planned projects related to WASTE2H2 thematic lines.

To better gather specific knowledge existent internally in each partner, researchers at mid and senior level from all partners will have exploratory visits at KTH, KIT and ENEA for periods of 3-4 days. These visits allow researchers to assimilate knowledge in each one of W2H2 thematic lines:
- Thematic Line 1: Integration of waste transformation with electrochemical processes.
- Thematic Line 2: Entrained flow for large scale and dual fluidized bed for medium scale gasification; syngas treatment including analysis of syngas.
- Thematic Line 3: Thermochemical conversion of solid feedstocks (biomass and waste) to hydrogen-rich gases, including pressurized steam FB gasification and gas leaning/upgrading.
Besides each partner’s facilities, exploratory visits also encompass visits to pilot and lab-scale facilities for treatment of solid waste feedstocks, visits to industrial stakeholders with relevant industrial processes. As a result of these visits, it is expected that the consortium will:
- Establish further scientific and innovation cooperation activities, even beyond the project
- Analyze in-situ how the scientific and innovation capacity of all partners (with the focus on IPPortalegre) can be reinforced.
